Mayfield: Passages in Time
This print is a cyan, magenta and yellow bitmap screenprint. It is approximately 21x59cm on white card.
It features the changing shape of the city. References to the history of the Mayfield site take form through maps, tiles from the former baths which were found on the site during excavation, and reference to the should print works. The Hoyle factory found new ways to print previously expensive colours, including purple, making designs on fabric woven in the city. Within the regeneration the part was planted with a wonderful array of plants, here I embed details of Hoyle’s designs in the foliage. The river Medlock is a passage through the work. The play park and an industrial chimney break the horizon.
The drawing for this features in the 2024 Manchester Open at Home.
